ABOUT

Silence The Shame

Silence The Shame is an initiative started by music industry veteran Shanti Das under her Hip-Hop Professional Foundation. Shanti has suffered from depression over the years and has also experienced love ones affected with mental health disorders. With Silence the Shame, she hopes to peel back the layers of shame and stigma as it relates to mental health. There are millions of people suffering and they are afraid to speak on it. There’s also a lot that needs to happen in the form of educating people about treatment, support and care.
Shanti hopes to spark a national conversation that will lead to increased awareness and funding to support those living with mental health conditions.
She has enlisted the help of some of her celebrity friends and colleagues to jump-start the conversation including Nick Cannon, Bell Biv DeVoe (BBD), Estelle, Andra Day, Will Packer, Stephanie Mills, Takeo Spikes, Chloe X Halle, Shanice, Flex Alexander, Terri J Vaughn, Nicci Gilbert Daniels and Ed Lover to name a few!

Camryn Triplett is a young entrepreneur and philanthropist from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated at the top of her class at Howard University in 2011. Camryn met Shanti Das, the founder of Silence The Shame a few years ago when it was still a vision. She immediately loved her vision and told Shanti that she would love to be involved when the time comes. Having suffered from depression and anxiety since her early teens, this cause is very near to her heart. A little less than a year passed, and Camryn reached out to Shanti because Camryn’s father had recently passed away. She was hoping for words of encouragement and advice on how to get through such a hard time, but she received much more as she could have imagined when she started volunteering her time to the Silence the Shame initiative.

Tanya Waldon an Atlanta, Georgia native, an advocate, and founder of My life is a gift. A LIFE project that raises awareness, erase stigma and promotes change in how we treat the millions of Americans affected by mental-emotional health challenges. With a highlighted, focus on survivors of suicide attempts and slowing the pace of the suicide epidemic. Years before My Life is a gift was established, Tanya attended a local fashion college and soon after began her career as personal assistant to a prominent music producer and became a wardrobe stylist/costumer for film, videos, and tours. But, life stood still when her only child attempted suicide and miraculously survived life support. My Life is a gift was created out of lived experiences of stigma, the ongoing struggle with policy, failure in the search for specific resources and facing that the terms “Mental Illness” and “Suicide” carries enormous shame and misunderstanding. Tanya has committed her life to adding a small piece to the giant puzzle by being a voice for those that suffer in silence, researching how we implement solutions and influencing understanding that mental health diagnosis are not all inclusive that these are individual circumstances that affect families in every ethnicity, social class, age group, religion, and gender. She also volunteers and is making a difference with other mental-emotional wellness and suicide prevention organizations such as the Silence the Shame initiative.

Jasmine Chapman is a professional marketing consultant & entrepreneur living in Atlanta. She has experience working in the music industry, TV production, and most recently in the IT/Computer Software industry where she currently works as a corporate marketing specialist. She is also a passionate mental health advocate.
Jasmine was diagnosed with anxiety at the age of 18. At the time, it was something that she accepted but didn’t truly understand all of its effects or how to treat it. After going through a few tough years and having no treatment, Jasmine’s anxiety reached its breaking point and started transitioning into depression. She found herself not eating, staying in bed all day, and isolating herself from friends. After she decided that was enough was enough she began seeking help from a psychiatrist for treatment.
After going through that ordeal, Jasmine knew that she couldn’t be the only one dealing with these issues and became more vocal about discussing mental health matters and sharing her story with her peers. After speaking with Shanti about Silence the Shame, Jasmine had no doubt that she wanted to get involved especially since mental health awareness was becoming a growing passion.
She hopes to spread Silence the Shame’s message and help grow the movement globally.

Our life is a quilt of experiences woven together with progress, and there is no shame in the process.
